Wines with Altitude
Basking in the clear mountain sunshine high above Napa Valley, Mount Veeder Winery is a hidden jewel. Winding switchbacks ascend the mountain to the steeply sloped estate where three vineyards are carved out of thickly wooded forests of red-trunked manzanita and majestic redwood. Farming on these slopes is a challenge, but rewards are great— low yields, small berries and intensely concentrated flavors in the grapes make wines with power and character.
In the 1800s, pioneers who cultivated vineyards on Mount Veeder knew there was something special about wines from these steep, crusty slopes. By the time Mount Veeder Winery was founded 1972, winemakers across the Napa Valley recognized that grapes from Mount Veeder and had an intensity and depth unlike grapes from the valley floor.
Today, mountain wines are in a class by themselves. They are difficult to produce; rare and limited in supply, but undeniably captivating, charismatic and long lived. Mount Veeder Winery’s Cabernet and Reserve are truly wines with altitude.
